Faribault Public Schools is excited to announce a new initiative that will empower, energize and engage our students outside the traditional classroom setting while also promoting literacy, safety and relationship building.

Faribault Public Schools will begin providing Books on the Bus this spring. The mission of Books on the Bus is simple - to encourage the joy of reading during the students’ commute to and from school. It accomplishes this by supplying students with picture books, chapter books and coloring books that they can read or have read to them while riding the bus.

In partnership with Faribault Public Schools, CCF Bank of Faribault donated the funds to purchase 122 canvas book pouches to place in our buses. The pouches feature a Books on the Bus logo designed the Business Design class at Faribault High School.

We will hold a book drive from March 18-April 12 to stock these pouches with new or gently used children’s books. There will be receptacles accessible during business hours CCF Bank, Buckham Library, all three elementary schools and the district office.

“This was something we heard about that a couple other school districts in other parts of the country were doing and we wanted to bring it to Faribault,” district Director of Finance and Operations Jennifer Walsh said. “This will provide a unique opportunity for students, especially since some of them have very long bus rides, to have access to reading material.”
