FAQ's

WHEN DO I GET PAID?

Checks will be deposited on the 15th or last business day before the 15th of the month, and the last business day of the month. Less than 12-month employees: If employed less than 12 months per year, employees do not qualify for unemployment compensation during the summer months, by Minnesota Statute.

HOW IS COACHING PAID? 

In equal payments during the season in which the duties are performed.

WHEN ARE EXTRA-CURRICULAR ASSIGNMENTS PAID? 

In equal payments throughout the time period in which the duties are performed.

IF I DO CURRICULUM WRITING, HOMEBOUNDING, EXTRA DUTIES PAID ON A TIMESHEET, WHEN WILL THIS BE PAID? 

The pay period that follows the timely receipt of a completed timesheet in the Payroll Office. Turn in timesheets semi-monthly

I WAS JUST HIRED, NOW WHAT DO I DO? 

Welcome to Faribault Public Schools. There are a few forms that need to be completed and turned into the Human Resource Office before the school board can officially hire new employees. (Please note: this will determine your seniority date). Please open the following forms for instructions: Visit the District Office at 710 17th Street SW, Faribault, MN to submit your completed forms and ask any further questions you may have. Please bring your driver's license, social security card, a voided check or savings slip, and $20.00 cash or check for your background check or copy of one completed within the past 6 months.

I AM A CURRENT DISTRICT EMPLOYEE, HOW DO I APPLY FOR A DIFFERENT POSITION WITHIN THE DISTRICT? 

Please complete the online internal application.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A LANE CHANGE AND WHEN WILL THE LANE CHANGE BE REFLECTED ON MY PAY CHECK? 

The deadlines for a lane change request are September 1st and January 15th (or the workday immediately following if the 15th falls on a weekend). Forms received in the Personnel Office after the deadline will not be processed. Salary increases from a lane change will be made on your September 15 or January 31st paycheck. HOW DO I BECOME A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER?  HOW DO I BECOME A PARAPROFESSIONAL SUBSTITUTE 

If you are interested in becoming a casual, as needed Paraprofessional Substitute in the Elementary and Secondary Schools, please come to the District Office, 710 17th Street SW, Faribault and fill out the necessary paperwork for subbing. Please bring 4 items with you when you apply – your driver’s license, your actual social security card, $20.00 cash or check for background check (or copy of one completed within the past 6 months), and a voided check. (Checks are automatically deposited in your checking account, and the voided check is necessary to set up payment).

I HAVE TO TRAVEL BETWEEN BUILDINGS EACH DAY. HOW WILL I BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS? 

Contact your supervisor regarding your options: • $1.12 per round trip. This is added to your payroll check after the completed and signed voucher request form is submitted to the Payroll Office. • $.535 per mile during 2017. This will be an accounts payable check issued after the completed, signed and approved voucher request form is submitted to accounts payable. Click here for the travel voucher form

I PAY CHILD SUPPORT FOR MY CHILDREN. HOW IS THIS HANDLED?

We send your name into the Minnesota New Hire Reporting Center and they will let us know how much to deduct and where to send the support check.

FLEX PLAN. WHAT IS IT AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

DO I HAVE TO BELONG TO THE UNION? ARE DUES GOING TO BE DEDUCTED FROM MY CHECK? 

Contact appropriate Union Representative. Dues can be deducted.

DO I HAVE TO GO ON DIRECT DEPOSIT? 

Yes. Your paycheck is deposited directly into your bank account on payday.

I WOULD LIKE TO PUT SOME MONEY INTO A TAX SHELTER ANNUITY (TSA). WHAT COMPANIES DOES THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WORK WITH? 

Go to www.faribault.k12.mn.us. Click on Staff and then the Payroll/Benefit Forms. Find the section titled Retirement and Tax Sheltered Annuities to retrieve the list of approved vendors.

WHAT WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM BE? 

Per individual contracts, sometimes pro-rated by number of hours worked during week. Please review your contract documents. Contact the Benefits Office for more information.

WHO IS OUR HEALTH INSURANCE CARRIER AND WHAT DOES THE PLAN COVER? WHAT ABOUT PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS?

Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Minnesota is our current health insurance provider. Contact them at 1-888-878-0136. Group # SC068

HOW MUCH LIFE INSURANCE WILL I HAVE AND WHAT WILL IT COST ME?

Per individual contracts, sometimes pro-rated by number of hours worked during week.

WHAT IS LTD AND WHO PAYS FOR IT? 

LTD is Long Term Disability Insurance. The District pays the premium in full if you qualify for this benefit. Refer to your individual contract for qualification.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS IF I QUALIFY FOR DISTRICT HEALTH INSURANCE BUT CAN'T AFFORD THE PREMIUMS?

Go to www.faribault.k12.mn.us and click on Staff and then the Payroll/Benefit Forms. Find the section titled Flex Plan Information for links to related forms.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A LEAVE OF ABSENCE? WHO DO I TALK TO? WHAT DO I DO WHEN I COME BACK FROM MY LEAVE? 

As soon as you know you are going to need a leave of absence, inform your building administrator so an appropriate substitute can be hired in a timely manner. Next, submit a letter to the School Board requesting a leave with the dates you will be gone via the Human Resource Office. Include a doctor’s statement and completed FMLA Form. If you are taking a leave different from FML, see your contract to determine what steps must be made. When you are ready to return from a leave contact your building administrator, Personnel, and Benefits.

IF I AM GONE FROM WORK FOR A DAY, WHAT DO I DO?

Fill out the appropriate form, or submit an online request via Aesop. Once approved by your supervisor, the request is sent to the Business Office to be recorded. Time off can be viewed on Aesop and logging in with ID and password provided by Human Resource Office.

WHAT HOLIDAYS AND OTHER LEAVE DAYS AM I ENTITLED TO? 

See appropriate contracts.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM PLACED ON UNREQUESTED LEAVE? 

Your Principal should explain Unrequested Leaves to you at the time you are placed on Unrequested Leave. Contact the Human Resource Office for more information.

WHAT STEPS DO I HAVE TO TAKE IF I LEAVE THE DISTRICT IN THE FUTURE?

If you decide to leave the school district, submit a letter of resignation to your building administrator.

WHO DO I TALK TO IF I FEEL THAT I AM BEING SEXUALLY HARASSED, VERBALLY HARASSED, ETC., BY A FELLOW EMPLOYEE? 

Call the Human Resources Office at 507-333-6006.

WHAT DO I DO IF I AM INJURED ON THE JOB? 

Contact the principal’s/program director’s secretary in your building at once to complete a First Report of Injury Form. We are required by law to have these forms filled out. You may call the Human Resource Office or Benefits Office for further questions regarding injuries.
