We believe continuous professional development is key to any successful technology integration. A fundamental process is finding ways to change the mindset of staff from traditional learning methods to new methods of learning and teaching. It's not about the technology but the culture of learning.
Our district plan is to incorporate professional development in several ways.
Digital Learning Coach
This person will be responsible for collaborating with staff and providing training in 21st century skills and technology integration strategies. This person will be responsible for facilitating, mentoring, coaching and demonstrating technology tools in relation to curriculum instruction.
Develop and implement ISTE Standard for Teachers. These are the technology standards developed for evaluating the skills and knowledge educators need to teach, work and learn in a digital society.
The SAMR model develop by Dr. Ruben Puentedura is a systematic framework for integrating technology into teaching and learning. The plan is structured into four stages, Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition.
The first two stages (substitution and augmentation) are enhancements with technology where the last two stages (modification and redefinition) focus on transformation with technology to student learning.
